my folks have a 2011 base and my mom loves it. my pops in looking in the cayenne forum here I believe (could have been somewhere else) read that the era of theirs has transfer case issues. I do not know the details, but from what he says they do not like anything but fresh fluid in TC. he is committed to changing it every 10k miles now per recommendations he's read on it. he has a lift in his shop so it's not a huge issue for him unless the thing takes a shat.
