Year ago after my dad retired and moved up to OKC I was over at my parents house during the holidays. I was lamenting the fact that once again the old boss did not give out any Christmas bonus. Dad almost did a spit take. He worked for the Air Force. No bonuses, and he had many many 80 hour weeks, and more Temporary Duties for 30 to 60 days away from home. Never once did he get a penny of overtime, or a bonus.
He did have a nice retirement and health care.
The guy I worked for for many long years would occasionally give me a hundred dollar bill a few days before Christmas. At the next job, the last in the photolab industry, I got a Christmas Turkek, and other little goodies, and a bonus check that was an weeks pay. At my last job we usually got a grand or so for a bonus.
I have only had 4 jobs in my life before going into business with my current business partner. Now the Christmas bonus is enough money to pay the ridiculous tax bill. We are making money, but we are spending money like a drunken congressman. We have several thousand bucks of software we will buy the renewal license for before the end of the year. It is crazy how expensive some of the software is just to keep using it.
