Best money I spent on my 911 sound system was a Cerwin Vega under seat subwoofer. I use my 6.5 inch Alpine Type R's for highs and mids and let the under seat sub handle the lows. It was an ENORMOUS improvement for $170. You could put in new door speakers and the under seat sub and spend less than $500 for a good sounding system. I'm using a sub $150 JVC head unit to power everything FWIW. I have multiple options for the EQ settings in the head unit or I can customize. I also have sub woofer settings and the CV comes with a remote dial.
