Knife hobbies are awful. It will annoy the hell out of your future daughter in law. Jus sayin.
Benchmade = axis lock. That small sliding button on the Osborne 940 above. Pretty bad ass. You pull it back, the hinge loosens and you flip the blade out with a wrist flick.
Zero Tolerance/ some Kershaws (sister companies?) = Speedlock. I think it’s called Speedlock. Essentially a “fin” that you pull back with your finger. Quick pulll, and your blade deploys with the worlds most satisfying “click”. I just got my first one. The have two “power Trains”. Spring assist, or a roller bearing one that doesn’t need a spring. NCIS “Gibbs” put them on the map.
spyderco = thumb hole. You pull the blade out with your thumb. The sharpest out of the box knifevEVER that I have ever seen, with my coworkers new Para-2.
There are even higher end folders out there. The ones above, $200-300. Watch out for counterfeits soyderco on Amazon.
Not enough time to discuss the myriad od steel choices.
