I'd forgotten about this thread. I was walking the dogs the other day and saw 3 or 4 old Asian folks walk up to the yard and start pointing and talking about the tree. I approached and asked if they knew what it was and one said "It's a Chinese Grapefruit." I came back and sure enough, Pomelo. The site said that when the fruit is yellow, that it's probably ripe. The tree was full of huge yellow fruit, so I snagged one and brought it home.
I peeled it and got down to the fruit. The skin on the sections is pretty tough, so I peel the sections and eat the meat. It's not that hard to peel the sections, but it is a little time consuming. You could probably cut it in half and eat it like a grapefruit with a spoon if you want, but I like the peel method better. They taste a lot like a grapefruit, but are more mild in flavor and not sour and not super sweet either. I've swiped 3 now while walking the dogs.
