Welp, back to Monday.
I got a call from my cousin the other day. He husband died several years ago, her son is 32 and lives in another city. She was saying she needs open heart surgery, and does not think she is strong enough to survive it. Of course, she has been a smoker since she was 16, and a full out alcoholic for 40 years. Everyone has done all they can, and nothing will change until she decides it is time to stop. She was pretty much calling to say goodby. When she drinks, which evidently starts when she get out of bed, she turns nasty and hateful, and just mean. For some reason no one wants to be around her, so she has no friends. I may go see her on Christmas day for a short visit. She lives 90 miles away. She said to call the day before to give her ample time to get ready. Most days, she just wears her nightgown all day, and only gets dressed for someone coming over.
It is just sad to see the cousin I remember from my earliest childhood, just flush her life away so she can keep smoking and drinking.
I know it is a horrible addiction, and she would need to want to change, and treatment. She is not interested.
