I'm downgrading Shark to one star. MrsWD was in the midst of her pre-Christmas cleaning frenzy when our 85 day old Duo Clean stopped sucking. The motor for the beater bars still ran, but the vacuum motor didn’t. I went through the on-line diagnostics such as they were, changing filters, making sure the hose wasn't clogged, etc. I went a little further and made sure the vacuum motor turned freely. I set it outside for half an hour and when I brought it in it worked again. The motor overheats in about 15 minutes of use. Let it cool down and it works again for 15 minutes.
I called customer support and got some woman in India or Indiana or one of those places where they barely speak English. She walked me through all the same diagnostics that were suggested on-line.
I patiently re-did every one. It had cooled off by then and was working fine, and I told her so repeatedly, but she kept reading her script, and walking me through the basic diagnostics.
“Please try phluk into differen outlet.”
“Why? It’s working fine right now. It will work fine for 15 minutes and then stop.”
Finally.
“Ifa you woo plea taka the filta off and see if vacuum at opening.”
Now we’re getting somewhere.
“Yes, as I said, it’s working great!”
“OK, please try phluk into differen outlet.”
“WHY? It’s sitting here working fine. But it will stop in about 10 minutes now.” (Apparently there may be better electricity at a differen outlet?)
Finally she asked for the serial number and also, “The number on phluk.”
“What?”
“Please provi four digit number on phluk.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t see a four digit number anywhere on this thing.”
“It on the phluk where you phluk in wall.”
I’m thinking, “what the phluk is a phluk?” Taking a wild guess I look at the cord end. No numbers AT ALL, and continue looking for the damn phluk.
“Four digit number on phluk you phluk in wall.”
On closer examination, there IS a four digit number on one of the prongs.
“It’s called a ‘prong’ m’am. The prong is on the end of the phluk.”
“OK, please phluk into differen outlet.”
“LADY! IT’S WORKING F*&$ing FINE RIGHT NOW!”

At that point MrsWD took the phone, before I had a heart attack.
So they are sending a new top. We have to pay shipping. I’m thinking we ought to get a whole new vacuum, including a new phluk. MrsWD is on the warpath with Amazon, and we may get one yet.
If we do, I’ll revisit my review.
