what are you trying to control through the receiver?
Say you have a ps4 your trying to put through the receiver you first need to have an hdmi ran from the ps4 to the back of the receiver to something like the game hdmi channel, from there you would need to run an hdmi from the hdmi out in the back of the receiver( usually labeled monitor 1) to hdmi 1 on your tv.
Make sure the hdmi is turned on in the receiver and your tv is set to hdmi 1 in source on your tv.
Every component you want to have the receiver control must be ran in it, then into the tv.
