For those who are not familiar, Jalama is 14 miles off the main highway and is accessed by a winding, narrow road, a trip that takes 20-30 minutes depending on how fast or "surf horny" you are. Only after the trip can you tell the surf conditions.
As for camping, it used to be "first come, first serve" with no reservations so you had to drive your RV up to the gate before you knew if there was a site available. If it was full, you had to come back later and try again. Locals would come early, book sites for several days and use them only on weekends. The park is now on a reservation system with a few sites set aside for drive-ups.
