A true unicorn is something so rare that it makes you gasp and say holy sh|t when you see it on the road, just like how you’d react if you actually saw a unicorn in the forest - hence the saying...I just saw a unicorn. Meaning it’s the car that detemines its unicorn status, not the car’s mileage. Having ultra low mileage only adds to it. An otherwise common car with very low miles can also be considered a unicorn by some I suppose, but definitely not a 33k mile 30 year old car that was produced in the several thousands.

As far as I’m concerned, the odometer read out alone doesn’t determine a car’s unicorn status, it can and does add to its allure, but a true unicorn doesn’t lose its uniqueness just from driving it a lot. Meaning...a really rare car is a really rare car whether it’s driven 20k miles a year as a daily driver, or parked in a museum its entire life. If it’s a 1 of 3, then it’s a 1 of 3 whatever the hell the odometer says. You shouldn’t have to get a guy to pull over to check his odometer first before determining if it’s a unicorn or not, that’s not really how it works.
