Hmm, CSpan had a debate on this very subject on Saturday. They compared the UK to Virginia. Apparently, in Virginia, where carrying is a viable option for citizens, the crime rate is very low. They compared to the increasing gun related crime in the UK.
We can debate on the fact that criminals don't apply for permits of any kind. We need to enforce the already strict laws for gun related crime. And F parole for these scum.
Here in NJ it takes an order from a judge to secure a carrying permit. Not easy at all...even with good connections.
I recall visiting a buddy in Fla. At the time he was into target shooting. Where he lived there were firing ranges on every corner. I flew down with two pistols. The gun shop owner was admiring them when I stated that I was from NJ and that gun laws were infinitely stricter than in Fla. His comment to me, in essence, was that he wished he could turn half the hand gun purchasers away and that he would be in favor of minimal restrictions. Needless to say I almost fell on the floor. I was prepared for him to go into a pro gun rant.
