I'm an engineer by trade so of course I swam under my hut and looked! At least at the one stayed in, the pipes for electrical and plumbing ran under the elevated walk way back to shore, joining the other huts pipes along the way. There were booster pumps along the way too.
When I was there, they ULTRA protective of the lagoon. You could swim and paddle board but they even had signs asking people not to dump out water bottles into the ocean.
