Doing a very quick forum search, it seems that they tried a couple different pump options before they figured out the real problem which was the pumps weren't priming correctly or long enough before starting the car.

Apparently a software update back in 2012-2013 fixed the issue for 99% of the N54/55 engines and the problem never was the pumps themselves after all.
