Currently we have two twelve year old neutered male cats (brothers ) who grew up around dogs in a very "live and let live " environment. Last year we got a border collie pup who tried out her trade on the boys. She soon found out those cats not only wouldn't herd, but would gang up on her to put her in her place at the bottom of the pecking order.
It is interesting to note the Alpha cat will cut the pup some slack and will be very friendly with her. His brother, on the other hand, is very determined the dog will not forget her place.
It is not unusual to see the three of them arranged around the wood stove.
