I'm sure many of you have seen the emblem add-ons that place led lights under the emblem as either running lights or signal repeaters such as the one pictured here.
I have noticed that the emblems are not nearly bright enough for anything really useable, so I'm building my own. The catch is the quantity of plexiglass discs I need to order to get a good price, so I thought I would see if there is any interest on the forum for some. I'll have 9 sets available and can do different ones (I'll just need to order the appropriate LEDs). I'll be using 3W chip leds that you can wire into your harness for daytime running lights or signal repeaters, or both (obviously I'd have some circuitry to go with).
The sets I build will likely not have as good a build quality as the other sets sold online for ~$100-150, but would you buy a set for $30 if you also had to splice in the wires (current intention)? What would pay if I included a harness? I'm not looking to make any money here, just cover costs to where a set is reasonably priced for me and provide a much brighter and cheaper alternative to the dim, costly ones on the market currently.
I'll be working on this project over the next month - waiting on the plexiglass is the hard part.
Update 2FEB2019:
Connected up some LEDs and running 420mA (210ma per LED branch) and took some pics and videos (see post below). I did frost the inside of one disc for comparison. I think I like it. I don't want to frost any heavier for fear of reducing light output though I can easily bump it a bit more as each LED should easily handle 350-400mA intermittent (indicator operation). I also looked at the $100+ kit some more. They provide double sided tape for the emblem to stick and just wire taps for the signal, so they are NOT plug and play either. I'll be doing some research on the correct turn signal connectors so that wire taps are no longer needed, but again, price would increase. I don't know if the plugs between the R12S and R11S are the same, however research says that the emblems are the same size and there for the discs will fit them as well
