It is great - best snow in the winter and hiking in the summer - just a couple of hours west of the city - or, if you are already northwest of the city - just a little over an hour.
And Denver now has a livable city core, which is nice - but, yes, pricey.
I am a native, and although it is hard to see Denver 'grow up' and become a big city, it still is the best place (so long as you aren't hankering for beaches).
