Yes, Concours on the Ave. would be perfect for your Beetle. There are usually a few VWs in the mix and they always get their fair share of attention. I'm starting to see vintage VWs turn up more frequently among the heavy hitters at other car events too.
The
Pacific Grove Rotary Concours Auto Rally might also be worth considering. I've entered my old VWs several times over the years and have even picked up a couple of awards. It's a car show, followed by a cruise along 17-Mile Drive, which all ends up at a BBQ and awards ceremony back in PG.

I totally agree about the current state of the Kelley Park VW meet. Fewer and fewer nicely-restored original cars and more clapped-out, slammed rust buckets sporting 1000 watt sound systems. The crowd is getting to be more like a freak show too...lots of very unattractive people showing up there now. It's the polar-opposite of Monterey Car Week.
