Think I've just had too many different kinds of cars.
Most American vehicles require a key as opposed to just pushing an unlocked button to get into the "trunk"
The two American cars I've had required a key turn in the back to open the trunk. They also had gas filler's behind the flop down license plate. Park with the pump on either side.
The 2 944 turbo hatch backs required a key turn in the back to open the hatch.
The Audi had a knob that could be locked or left unlocked. It required turning the knob not the key to open. Like my 914, except the 914 had a button instead of a knob.
The 928's you could use an internal unlock switch or a key in the back to open the hatch.
The Boxster only had an internal switch to open the trunk, or a button on the remote.

The Cayenne has an internal switch and a button on the key fob to lock/unlock the rear hatch. It also has programming to lock and unlock the rear hatch with the rest of the doors, or leave it locked. But you still have to lift the latch to open the hatch. It ain't auto open/close like in newer models. Don't have keys entery and drive either.

Don't know if the rear latch was stock on the 914 or not. It had that reflector with PORSCHE in it that went from tail light to tail light like the GTS. On the 914 it was where the model, engine size, and trunk key latch was. But mine had a button that you used the key to lock and unlock.
