We had a mouse up in the attic, that managed to fall down into the wall. The dogs alerted us that something was scratching inside the wall. They wanted to dig through the wall to end the entrapment and turn it into a snack. We had to put up a barricade around that part of the wall. Our female dog just held guard duty to make sure it did not escape and get us, and we felt very safe. Finally the scratching stopped, and the smell started. Fortunately for us it was in the "formal dining room" that gets used once per decade so the odor was not bothering us on a regular basis. It faded after a week or so and it all gone long ago.
I am real glad it was not inside a car, that would suck.
When we first moved in, my wife admitted we did not need a formal dining room. I volunteered to knock down the wall between it and the garage and add the floor space to the garage. She declined that offer. She managed to find a lot of antiques to fill up the room.
