I have been rebuilding my downstairs (small 6'x7') bathroom from the studs up, with new everything. One main thing that we got rid of because of non use was the deep, standard tub with 18" tall sides, and a shower curtain (no jets). I installed a 36"x60" shower base with the matching surround walls, and a rain shower head. This base only has a 3" lip so is handicap accessible if needed, and is big enough for an amorous twosome, with a removable/mountable seat for just sitting and soaking.
We have used the big swirltubs with the jets, but found that we wasted alot of water filling them, and they cooled down quickly, so a no go. We do have a HOTSPRINGS spa on our backporch so...
