With all the auctions coming up for equipment down in Kissimmee you should be able to find some decent rates if you can find a broker willing to post the load. A lot of companies run trucks down there knowing a lot of freight will be moving North after all of the auctions end. A non runner will cost more because there's more time involved in loading/unloading. In the trucking world time is money even more so today because of electronic logging. Hotshot single piece figure about $3/loaded mile. LTL figure about 1.50/loaded mile maybe a bit more due to it being a non runner.
As AB mentioned, bet DOT (and MAC) numbers, when you get DOT and MAC you can search the company and view their profile. Proof of insurance with freight coverage.
