I sometimes wonder if some Government web sites try hard to make using the web portal klunky and hard to use. Filing sales taxes is just silly complex, and illogical. I just had to renew the annual Secretary of State corporate filing to keep the company in good standing. It cost $25 per year and there is a "convenience" fee for using a credit card of a dollar. So $26 bucks per year for the honor of staying in business. Of course if you go past three years, the corporate name is available to anyone, so they could grab the same name and have legal rights to it. As it is we own our name and could sue anyone that opened with the same name. Pretty unlikely, but possible.
Anyway, you log in and are supposed to just know your filing number. So the real first step is look that up, and it changes on each visit. SO find the filing number, fill in all the blanks that are the exact same as last time. Go through all that, and then you long in with a username and password, and then wind through a maze to find the place where you can tell them to use a credit card, then enter the document number for the filing you just requested, then enter the CC number, then you "sign" the document by typing in your name one more time. That generates an email, and the send me a link to download a zip file, that has the new certificate buried 5 folders deep. Why in the heck do they put 5 folders of nothing to put in the certificate?
Oh well, it is done.
