Where I work they are NOT making good decisions. Has me worried.

I am the guy that puts new hires into Active Directory, Office 365 and assign software licensing and assign all the default security and email groups for their department/job titles. There is an average of 10 new hires every week.

I used to do it manualy and it took me a full day to add and assign everything. They would give me the new hires information on a Friday, usually at 5pm or after and the now hires had to be all set up by their on-boarding on Monday. Finally got HR to release me the information for new hires on Thrusday (still comes out about 5pm) but at least didn't have to spend a Saturday adding people.

In the mean time I have made my own database to keep all the user information and built scripts to add new hires all the places they need and assign all the licenses, groups, etc. Streamlined the process to just 30minutes.

They have hired two different consultants to try to streamline the process, and none have been able to beat my current process. They have never ask me, the guy that actually does the process anything.

Last week they had a site down with our new 365 provider and upped our licensing to enterprise level because we have so many users. The big change is we notify them by email what licenses we need added and they take 2 days to add them.

Again they sre changing the process without talking to me and want to move the new hire release from HR 2 days. If they would have asked me...

When you add users thru the admin center in 365, if you do not have licenses already paid for it does not let you assign them. However, adding new users through powerscripts it adds the users whether you have licenses available or not. Then you can go to the admin center and lists you licenses and it lists how many you have, how many are assinged, and if you don't have enough how many you need of each type of license.

From that, what makes sense to me is...Assigning everything for new hires like I have been doing with my scripts on a Thusday, Then firing off an email to buy more of whatever we need. The licenses aren't actually used for 3 days so no problem.

Instead they want HR to come out with the list 2 day sooner than they are now. Then have help desk personnel go thru and see if more licenses are needed and add them. The wait until the licenses are added before adding the new users to our system.

Just seems to me they are making more work for more people to avoid me sending one email.

If they do that sort of thing with everything else, they are wasting a LOT of manpower and making things take longer than necessary. To me that don't make money.
