shift rod seal replacement

Have been putting up with a pesky little leak from the shift rod seal. It's making a mess on an otherwise leak free engine, and is probably getting worse as time goes by. Plus, it's pissing me off.

I've done such a replacement once many moons ago with the engine out of the car (not this car), but in this instance there's no way in hell I want to drop the engine for a pesky $4.50 seal.

Found this tech article in the Pelican archives:

Does that method work well for y'all that have tried it? I don't want to get in there and totally dork up the seal and have to do it the hard way.
