I'm thinking there is much less aftermarket support for the MB engine vs. LSx variants.
Have read a number of threads on the topic of swapping MB diesel engines into other chassis, and one issue I've seen is that the engine ECU needs to handshake with other components (like the dashboard and transmission control units) in order to run. While anything is feasible, I'd imagine a whole lot of engineering is required.
