Today, they grow up too fast.
When I was a kid I was pretty much shielded from the world's daily grind. I didn't understand or really care about Russia or China or Cuba. I got to read the morning and evening newspaper and maybe an hour of national news.
My priority was keepijg my bike in running order and my baseball glove oiled. Not human rights, abortion, global warming or who to vote for.
With today's smart phones, social media, 24 hour radio and television news kids are bombarded with "facts" from all sides of an issue. And they get sucked in. They skip the part about being a kid and learning to be an adult and jump right into being an "adult". When they see "adults " resorting to name calling and put downs on social media they learn the same method of name calling because they want to be "adults" when they are actually children. And they can practice being an "adult " while being anonymous
I went to school. I babysat. I mowed 5 yards each and every year. And I kept my bike running and my baseballl glove oiled.
