My childhood was great for the most part. I am still experiencing it.
I never once even gave it a thought that I would not have a safe bed to sleep in, and food on the table. Dad had a simple rule, if he paid for my haircut, it was "high and tight" and looked ready for military service. I started mowing yards when I was in the 5th grade so I could have my hair a little longer. It still could not be touching my collar or cover my ears.
When we lived in Waipahu, HI I would pick the papayas from the mmany trees in our yard and sell them door to door in the neighborhood.
I got my first real job with a paycheck when I was a junior in high school. I got the job in part because I could drive to work after school. I worked half a day on Saturdays. I often shot photos on Sunday as well.
Overall I lived in the "Leave it to Beaver" world. I remember being shocked the first time I met a boy in school who had parents that were divorced. I did not know that happened.
