If the frame isn't rigid, I'd think a mod would improve the sound quality. I don't recall mine being in a sealed enclosure. If not, and the framework appears sturdy, I wouldn't worry about it. Good speakers do make a difference whether in a sealed enclosure or in free air. Besides, most of the sound reproduction should come from the front, not behind you.
