I m not referring to the Modal unit with vertical mounts.., my original was just a flat rear shelf pad about 2.5 in thick, 1/8 th inch fibreboard base + shaped Styrofoam and cover. I guess pictures would help but i didnt take any during that project which is rare. If all goes well, you may see it posted on the for sale section later this spring :-)
When i pick up the new (old) unit from San Diego I will be keen to see how it is structured for rigidity and like you, i anticipate it will be sufficient as is to take new speakers and the 60w my amp puts out.
ps: 4 speakers for old blues like King Biscuit Boy is really da bomb
