Pennsylvania is reporting 65,000 flu cases this year (above the level for a declared epidemic). Population is 12,750,000. So 1/2 % chance of contracting the flu.
A little less than half the population gets the flu shot, so if we make the generous assumption that all the flu cases are people who didn't get the shot, you have about a 1% chance of getting the flu.
They admit to 1% -2% complications from the shot = so about the same as the chance of getting the flu.
My calculation - since I'm already in a low-risk of infection population and I'm healthy, I'm better off without the shot.
