Where some people get into trouble with those manual boost controllers is that they install and use them without having any sort of AFR monitoring device onboard. And of course, the 930's stoneage-tech ignition and fueling systems don't have knock sensing, active timing control, or active fuel enrichment (enrichment is based on boost pressure, but the stock WUR is very limited there, and even a modified one has its limits and does not compensate automatically when boost pressure is increased past what it was tuned for).

When boost pressure is increased, the dynamic compression ratio goes up (big bump in horsepower and torque) and that requires more fuel (enrichment) - if no increase in fuel (lean condition), then very high cylinder head temps result and detonation follows.

So obviously, it is nuts (different than pNutz!) to install one of those controllers without also being able to monitor AFRs and without installing a modified/adjustable WUR which you've tuned for the added boost pressure.
