BTW, you're supposed to look at the salesman and say "you're tryin ta screw me blind!" I'm pretty sure that's SOP for dealing with car salesmen.
Here's what I do. I walk into the dealership. I tell them "I'm going to buy a vehicle today. I want your best cash price out the door. I'm going to check two other dealers and will not share your numbers with them. If you end up the best price, I'll be back in a few hours to finalize the deal. If not, your deal wasn't the best I could find"

When I sold cars, (a few decades ago but nothing has changed), I would have said, "so no matter what price I give you, you're not going to buy from me now without checking around? Go to the other places first and come here last. That's my only chance."
