Never tried the fabric softener...but when changing computer parts I soak down the socks and carpet, plus touch ground often.
No polyester shorts allowed.

I dry clothes in the basement in the winter and use a vent diverter to release nice-smelling hot air inside.
The furnace handles all the extra dehumidifying.
It keeps the static shocks down to a minimum.
