Grew up feeding our own livestock on an uncles farm. However, he took the animals to a butcher and we got that white papar packaged stuff with the cuts labled. Also too game to the butcher for chopping up and/or making sausages.
Fish we did ourselves. Could filet a fish when I was 5 years old.
Grew up with a freezer full of meats, and garden stuffs. Also had lots of home canned and root celler stuff. The root celler stuff was kept in wooden boxes.
Mom told me about when she was little butchering a hog was a big family event. Some was cooked and ate that day, some put in the smokehouse, and some in the ice house. And some was made into sausage and hung on the back porch.
Said they made head cheese a couple of times, but nobody really liked it. Only made it for this one relative of my grandparents that just loved it..
