Volvos at it again! The next thing they've released to help 'deathproof' their vehicles is introduce more active measures that address distracted and intoxicated drivers. Volvo will begin this tech with their next-gen vehicles, which utilizes in-car cameras to monitor and evaluate the responsiveness of a driver. If a driver is ever deemed impaired, the autonomous safety systems will intervene (such as limiting the vehicle speed or stop in a safe manner) and also call authorities.
Henrik Green, senior vice president for research and development at Volvo stated:

When it comes to safety, our aim is to avoid accidents altogether rather than limit the impact when an accident is imminent and unavoidable. In this case, cameras will monitor for behaviour that may lead to serious injury or death.
