A couple years ago a big shot within the Mackinac Bridge Authority gave a TV interview and disclosed the plan to build a floating bridge from Michigan to Wisconsin and that construction was to begin April 1st. the following year.

The subsequent letters to the editor in the local paper went from hilarious to dangerously gullible.

The TV station manager had to do one of those serious on-air retractions saying construction would NOT begin April 1st of next year.

The Michigan politicos got an earful and issued all kinds of clarifications, including that only one lane was to be constructed at a time and that the decision about which direction it would go was under discussion.

There were marches and protests in Ludington, MI which is home port for USS Badger, being a car ferry to Wisconsin, which would become obsolete and cause unemployment.

The Coast Guard confirmed rumors that Wisconsin would declare a ‘Police Action’ against Michigan if
the bridge wasn’t called Favre Highway...
