They lost me with The Force Awakens.
The story telling style just wasn't right for a major Star Wars film.
I've enjoyed black and white 1950's B-movies more than post Disney Star Wars.
I'm also grumpy from how bad post Disney Star Wars game content has been; that jades me.
A big deal is A New Hope didn't try to drum up mystery, it focused on adventure and action. It felt like a story being told as it happened.
The Force Awakens kept popping to flashbacks, it made gaps to try to create "suspense" for future movies. It sucked.
I recognize that both the original trilogy and this new one plays games with parentage, but Empire Strikes Back just hit you with it instead of this gap spawned plot hole feeling that TFA had.
Overall it just felt forced and artificial. I disconnected.
I do consider it likely that if Lucas had made 7,8, 9 that I might not of liked them either. It isn't just Disney.
The first three Star Wars movies are just a tough act to live up to.
The books and computer games that followed them were great.
To condense, A New Hope told a story; The Force Awakens obscured a story.
