Firefighters have it under control now, the structure and main towers are saved. They are busy evacuating art work (in the smoke) and taking it to conservation places to stop the damage, and cooling off the part of the spine that hasn't caved in, it's dangerous work... Unlike what some idiots suggested (one of them a president, even) using fire planes would make it collapse... France has plenty of Canadair and Tracker fire planes but only helicopters could be used with lighter water loads to avoid more damage... (that said I'd have loved to see a pic of a canadair scoop water on the Seine river - would have been fancy flying)

It can be rebuilt.
