Whatever you buy, be on the lookout for "energy-efficient' OR 'high-efficiency' as most are. What that boils down to is less water in the tub, the tub barely rotates, the wash time is twice or more as a regular machine. The end result is the clothes just don't get clean.

We bought a GE - non-efficiency unit. It was the only non HE in a mid price range. We love it, its been 2 years works great. Don't know what the shelf life is over the long haul though.......
