Off street parking is - shall we say - rare. Most people park by feel. Owning a nice car is not recommended if you care to keep it that way.

When we were on vacation in San Fransisco like every tourist, we walked around to see the city. My 911 was parked safely at the underground parking garage under the hotel, next to a pillar and out of harms way.
I noticed every single car I saw parked on the street looked like everyone in SF parks by feel. I did not see one bumper that was not dented and scraped up. And lots of scraped up fenders. Of course they were all just the "commuter cars" and the few nice cars I saw, were on the road, and likely parked in a very expensive spot.
