The Rolling Stones wrote about that in 1969.
I have often thought of that song as my theme song. I don't always get what I want, but when I try sometimes I get what I need.
In 1969 we lived in Hawaii. In 9th grade we lived in Waipahu, and I was 50% of the Haole (white) kids. Even Chuck Norris in the 9th grade could not whip a school of 9th and 10th graders, many of who were Samoan and HUGE. Every Friday was kill Haole day, and I got my hit, and chased and attacked by several kids. I rember one time running in a sprint all the way home, and jumping over the fence we had for the dog, and when they saw our Bulldog, they stopped chasing me.
We finally moved on base and I got to go to a school that was pretty close to 50% white and the beatings stopped with the parity of population, so I got what I needed, safety in numbers. We still had to be able to run fast if we were in a small group and the locals were in a big group. I could outrun em all.
