Fortunately it was just that one year in hell school. We lived in 11 different houses in my lifetime memory. My older brother and my parents had even more moves, and a few when I was in infant. In one neighborhood off base in Montgomery was a little rough. I think that was third grade for me, I would have to think about it more to be sure. I think the school name was Bellingrath. Anyway that was the school where the teacher had such a thick southern accent I could not understand her. We had just come back from Hawaii after out first assignment there. So I went from hearing pidgin English to very thick southern accent. It was hard to catch up. That is why I made a zero on my first spelling test where the teacher just called out the words. They called my parents and had a meeting and told them they thought I was retarded. My dad said Ma'am, I can hardly understand you myself, so I can imagine my son has no chance. They took home the list of words and mom gave me the test. I don't remember my exact score but it was a good passing grade. They assigned me to a different teacher.
