Having the seller have possession of a valid title means that you have an additional owner in the chain of ownership; that's a negative for a one- or two-owner car.
But it's a small price to pay, IMO, for not having to deal with all the drama. Virginia makes it extremely difficult to title a car without a valid title signed by the PO to you.
