I document my maintenance in a log (electronic on Evernote) which date stamps my notes and can retrieve receipts. Most of my cars are out of warranty so it really does not matter, but I just purchased a 2013 with extended warranty. I plan on creating a paper log of maintenance and receipts. Any thoughts and experiences?
As a shop owner, I can only suggest caution. First of all, you NEVER see these policies offered by name brand insurance companies; we have seen one of these obscure carriers go out of business four times, and come back under a different name with the same address and phone number. Some of these carriers try to dictate the labor rates a shop can charge, what the parts should cost, as well as the total time the job should take, which is an immediate non starter. They also suddenly do not cover what ever is wrong with the car, or require a major deductible. I also have no intention releasing a car and waiting for a store front operation half way across the country to get around to paying me 60 to 90 days after the job is finished.

We quickly made dealing with these third party carriers the owner's responsibility, you pay me, then try to get paid by them. I simply will not deal with them.
