Best Market to sell a 69 911E Sporto?
I was just wondering what the best market might be for my 69E ROW Sportomatic? It’s a Japanese invoice 1/69, Karmann body built sent to Mitsuwa Motors then. Vin is 002X or in the first 20-30 911E production line. It could be the first 911E Sporto off the line, but how to know that, or would anyone care?
Selling a Mitsuwa dealer car in Japan would command a 30% increase compared to a normal import on 911 i.e. grey car. I realize Sporto is stigmatized in US, and a bit in Japan, don’t know about Europe (Germany). As a ROW car, I thought maybe Germany might be interested. Certainly anyway, there might be an older guy with only two legs, middle and right that would love to drive a Sporto because he could still drive a 911E 69. Moreover, a collector might want this car due to its vintage and low miles too 43k KM.
A friend from college said the other day that during the buying frenzy, everybody that wanted a classic early 911 got one. Now, the remaining buyers are guys that want the odd ball rare car, like this one. Do you agree? Should I sell or keep it longer? I don’t necessarily need the money. Will Sporto ever come into its own niche without the stigma?
It is a driver, and needs interior, body and paint. Car does drive and is mechanically sound so to speak. Light Ivory, and has a later addition factory alloy deck lid. It does need a front floor pan, but I have those parts I bought new, just haven’t done it. I did a quick, FRP patch job to get safety inspection here at local DMV a couple years ago – another story.
