What's the best way to cut off nails poking thru roof eaves?

When I replaced my roof a few years ago, I made sure I used the shortest possible nails because I was tired of banging my head on nails in the attic. However, I failed to notice that the nails are poking thru the eaves about 1/8 to 1/4 inch.

I'm getting my house painted in a few weeks and I want to cut off all the tiny nail points under the eaves. I bought a snipper with long handles for leverage but I was thinking that a grinder might work better - or a dremmel with a grinding wheel.

Anyone with experience on this? Also, do you think the remaining cut off nail will eventually show thru the paint (i.e., rust, etc..)

Any advice would be appreciated.
