Cat behavior question,

First, our #1 cat is a 23 pound main coon named butthole. He is a bad ass. Has dragged home birds, squirrels, rabbits, etc. brought us a muskrat last fall. He routinely play fights with our four year old heeler mix. Play fights with me. Trys to bully and intimidate the neighbor dogs. Is the dominate male in the area.

Three weeks ago we got a new puppy. He will not stand up to it. The new dog chases him around and chews on him. The cat will not raise a paw. He’s even taken to hiding in the linen closet. We do not understand.
