Sorry for the delay in my response - my son Alex and I just returned from the Isle of Man, where they hold this obscure little motorcycle road race known as "The TT" - or Tourist Trophy. Great way to spend a week with one's son, by the way...
I have never oiled a leather holster in my life. Ever. Supe, as you have discovered, the holster manufacturers seem to have this figured out. Their tanning processes do everything the leather will ever need. Holsters should be tight at first, since they do loosen up and form to the gun with use. All is well - you are on the right track.
