I never once went to a school that was air conditioned. And that includes Texas, Alabama, and Oklahoma schools, as well as some in Hawaii with no heat and for sure no AC.
Growing up I was in the 10th grade before we had an air conditioned house. I drove un-airconditioned cars until 1991. The reason I sold my beloved 1974 914 2.0 that I bough new, was my wife said she would not go on any more road trips with me in the Porsche. I bought the 911 and it had some AC, but not great. That has been fixed.
My grandparents talked about the house where my dad was born. One room, single wall construction, and they paid $50 for it. My back yard shed is a better building. In the summer it was like the attic, and then grandma got to fire up the wood burning stove to cook dinner. No electricity, and the water was outside with a hand pump.
Sure anyone can survive without AC, but in my opinion it is the best invention since electricity!
