One I heard was from the days of the old cotton bowl in Dallas, Texas. Lot of action pool players hung there. A sting of sequential lights on a sign out front. One guy would bet he could outrun the lights as they blinked down the line. The sucker would watch the lights, decide not even a 9 flat 100 sprinter could beat them, so he'd take the bets. The gambler would say he needed to go inside & change shoes before he ran....when inside would tip his accomplice to slow 'em using the rheostat they were hooked to.
